PFAS requirements: preparing material documentation

PFAS statements need a clear basis. No intentionally added PFAS describes formulation management. Not detected depends on the analytical method and detection limit. Neither statement should be replaced with an unqualified claim of absolute zero content.

Identify the applicable requirement

PPWR limits for PFAS in EU food-contact packaging began to apply on 12 August 2026. This requirement is distinct from broader PFAS restriction procedures and should not be described as a blanket ban covering every material.

Project documentation checklist

• Supply-chain declarations for materials, coatings and additives.
• Analytes, sample identity, method, detection limits and test date.
• Finished-product food-contact use, medium, temperature and duration.
• Target-market requirements and corresponding product tests or documentation.
